The seizure of two tonnes of cocaine is one of the largest drug seizures ever in an ongoing crackdown on crime.
On September 27, police in the port city of Hamburg (Germany) announced that authorities had confiscated more than 2 tons of cocaine worth 100 million euros (112 million USD) and arrested a number of people involved in this criminal ring.
The drugs were hidden in banana boxes in a container near the port of Hamburg.
Hamburg Interior Minister Andy Grote said it was one of the largest drug seizures ever in an ongoing anti-crime operation.
According to police, the container carrying the goods was supposed to be on its way to customs inspection, but the driver took the wrong turn. The task force intervened as the “goods” were about to be unloaded and arrested 12 suspects.
German media reported that the suspects were aged between 21 and 43, and most came from Türkiye, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Albania and India.
