On the day of the International Women's Day party, the men were in the kitchen, while the women were free to chat and sing karaoke.
A series of photos capturing the atmosphere of a meeting to organize a party to celebrate International Women's Day (March 8) in a small hamlet in Me Linh district, Hanoi has attracted special attention from the online community in the past few days.
In the photo, members of the neighborhood, from old to young, from men to women, attend the meeting seriously. Following that is the image of the whole neighborhood happily setting up a tent, practicing performing arts... preparing everything for the party, exchanging to celebrate the special day.
The authentic and simple images attracted thousands of “likes”. Netizens left many excited comments about the solidarity of the households in the village: “The women of this village must be very proud”; “The brothers are gallant, the sisters are happy. Congratulations to the women in the village”...
Mr. Do Kien Vong (Hanoi) said that the series of photos were taken at team 12, village 3, Thach Da commune, Me Linh district, Hanoi. He is a member of the village.
Mr. Vong revealed that his neighborhood has about 60 households. In the past, the men in the neighborhood mainly worked in construction, often traveling far away for work. The housework and childcare were all shouldered by the women.
“My neighborhood is called the ‘trying neighborhood’. In the past, the families’ economy was difficult, but in recent years, everyone’s life has improved because the children are successful and show filial piety to their parents. Therefore, this year, the ‘men’ in the neighborhood want to organize a meaningful party to show gratitude for the hard work and sacrifice of the women, mothers, and sisters…”, Mr. Vong shared.
The idea was given by Mr. Vong and his father. Before that, Mr. Vong and his father, along with some other members, went to each household, inviting everyone to his house to discuss the organization.
On February 28, many members of the neighborhood gathered at Mr. Vong's house for a meeting. Everyone was very excited and agreed to participate in the March 8th celebration. Regarding the cost, each adult would contribute 200,000 VND, children would be free. Some well-off people in the neighborhood also contributed more.
After the meeting, the whole neighborhood started preparing for the party. Men set up the tent, women practiced performing arts... everyone happily participated.
“The theater was set up in my yard. All the men were skillful and brought their own tools to build the theater. The women happily prepared the performances for the party,” said Mr. Vong.
On March 5, the whole neighborhood gathered at Mr. Vong’s house. A large banner with the words “Solidarity. Welcome to International Women’s Day March 8” stood out in the middle of the yard.
The men in the neighborhood volunteered to cook, while the women leisurely chatted and sang karaoke. The women even dressed up and took souvenir photos.
“That day there were about 100 people attending, sitting at 20 tables of food. Everyone interacted and sang happily.
I was most impressed with the photo session. The whole neighborhood took photos together, then each family took souvenir photos together. Many children also took photos with their parents. The youth association told each other that thanks to this opportunity, they had precious photos with their parents,” said Mr. Vong.
Mrs. Vuong (a member of the neighborhood) expressed her feelings about the special party.
For Mr. Vong, this is not only a party to celebrate March 8, an opportunity for the neighborhood to interact with each other, but also an occasion for men to express their feelings for the important women in their lives.
“I remember that day, the boys sang many songs about their mothers. The grandmothers, mothers, and sisters were also happy and excited when the whole neighborhood celebrated their day,” said Mr. Vong.
