At the age of 78, Mr. Ngo Ton Duc (born in 1945, Hanoi) has just become the oldest bachelor of Hanoi Law University after graduating with a degree of honors.
At the age of seventy, instead of enjoying his retirement, 5 years ago, Mr. Ngo Ton Duc (Thuy Khue ward, Tay Ho district, Hanoi) decided to go to school like the young people of his generation.
Studying a part-time bachelor's degree in law, the 73-year-old man worked hard to earn his third university degree.
"Old student" Ngo Ton Duc graduated with honors from Hanoi Law University.
Recently, with a cumulative score of 8.1, Mr. Ngo Ton Duc holds the record for the oldest bachelor's degree graduate from Hanoi Law University.
“I am very happy and excited because after 5 years of studying I have received a bachelor’s degree. I still feel elated,” said Mr. Duc.
Ngo Minh Phuong (Mr. Duc's granddaughter, currently a second-year university student) said that to get this third university degree, he had to try and make a lot of effort.
“During his studies, he encountered many difficulties, especially in English and IT. Whenever he needed it, I often helped him translate English so he could understand or type to help him complete his essays... When I typed for him or discussed papers with him, I also gained more knowledge about the law industry that I did not know,” Phuong shared.
Phuong said that when Mr. Duc expressed his desire to study law at an old age, there were many opposing opinions.
“At first, his family was quite surprised by his wish, but then they all supported him because it was a long-standing wish, and when he was young, he also loved studying. Now, my family is very happy and proud of his excellent graduation results,” Phuong said.
To get a third university degree, he had to work hard and put in a lot of effort. Despite many difficulties due to his old age, throughout his studies, Mr. Duc always achieved high scores in his studies.
In the eyes of his classmates, Mr. Duc has always been a diligent, industrious and studious student.
Mr. Do Hoai Nam (a student of the 1st Diploma class K18B at Hanoi Law University with Mr. Duc) shared: “Mr. Duc always comes early and studies very hard, preparing his homework very thoroughly. Many days, after class, he still has many questions for the lecturer.
Because of his old age, he is often tired, but people care about him and ask about his health. His academic results are excellent, even worse than those of young people. That is a constant effort and struggle, very commendable."
Not only did Mr. Ngo Ton Duc graduate with the highest score in his class, he also became the oldest bachelor in the history of Hanoi Law University.
A representative of Hanoi Law University said that the class initially had more than 40 students, and now more than 30 students have graduated, and student Ngo Ton Duc has the highest score in the class. With this result, Mr. Duc is also the oldest bachelor to graduate in the history of Hanoi Law University.
Becoming a Bachelor of Law, Mr. Duc said, he has to pay more attention to every word and action. Mr. Duc shared that after graduation, he plans to continue studying for a master's degree in Civil Law or to study to become a lawyer.
“But with the graduate program, I had a bit of trouble because I was “stuck” with English, and now I have to review English. Regarding information technology, I am not too worried because I can still “get by” and will learn more from my grandchildren and children,” Mr. Duc said.
