After being established in July 2023 according to the Decision of the Provincial People's Committee, the Hai Duong chess team participated in the first tournament and won a resounding victory.
On December 6, the leader of the Hai Duong Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center said that the Hai Duong chess team had just returned from the 2023 Northern Open Chess Championship, winning 10 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals in rapid chess, individual blitz chess, and team events.

In this tournament, the Hai Duong chess team sent all 8 players of the team to compete, with 5/8 players winning medals. Notably, the 5-year-old player of Hai Duong, Nguyen Hoang Anh, competed with the U7 group.
