Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Board Chairman Arrested

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Company Limited was recently prosecuted and temporarily detained by Hai Duong Provincial Police.

According to the report of Hoang Thach Packaging Joint Stock Company, on November 12, the Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong Province Police executed the decision to prosecute and issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Le Thanh Long, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Company. The above decisions and warrants were approved by the People's Procuracy of Hai Duong Province.

At the time of prosecution, Mr. Le Thanh Long (59 years old, residing in Hai Duong) was also a member of the board of directors of Hoang Thach Packaging Joint Stock Company.

It is known that Mr. Long has a professional qualification as a construction materials engineer and has worked for decades in units of the Vietnam Cement Corporation (Vicem). Since December 1986, Mr. Long has been a technician, then successively held the positions of deputy head of technology, kiln workshop manager, and head of production engineering department at Hoang Thach Cement Company.

From July 2013 to December 2014, Mr. Long was Deputy General Director of Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Company Limited and a member of the Board of Directors of Hoang Thach Packaging Joint Stock Company. From November 2015 to December 2019, Mr. Long was General Director of Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Company Limited and a member of the Board of Directors of Hoang Thach Packaging.

Mr. Long has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vicem Hoang Thach Cement One Member Co., Ltd. and member of the Board of Directors of Hoang Thach Packaging since January 2020.

Along with the prosecution and arrest of Mr. Long, the Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong Province Police also temporarily detained Mr. Nguyen Van Chang (who used to work at Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Company) to investigate the violation of bidding regulations causing serious consequences during his time working at Vicem Hoang Thach Cement Company.

At the time of prosecution, Mr. Chang was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vicem Bim Son Packaging Joint Stock Company and a member of the Board of Directors of Vicem But Son Packaging Joint Stock Company.

Speaking to reporters at noon on November 18, a leader of Hai Duong Provincial Police said the case was still under investigation so he could not provide detailed information.
