The Dien Bien Phu victory had a strong impact on the national liberation movement.

Secretary General of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association, Mr. Pedro De Oliveira, affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory had a strong impact on the struggle against colonialism of peoples around the world.

In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency reporter in South America on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), Mr. Oliveira emphasized that thanks to the encouragement from the glorious victory of the Vietnamese people against the French army, during the period from 1954 to the late 1960s of the last century, more than 40 ethnic groups gained independence from the colonial regime.

According to Mr. Oliviera, the Dien Bien Phu victory was the convergence of many factors, including the leadership role of the Party, directly the vision and excellent strategic vision of President Ho Chi Minh and the campaign command role of General Vo Nguyen Giap. President Ho Chi Minh considered the resistance war against French colonialism to be an armed struggle with the participation of all oppressed people.

Mr. Oliviera, who has many years of research on Vietnamese history, emphasized: "The resistance struggle must take into account the strengths, opportunities, terrain and climate conditions and the solidarity of the entire people. This last factor is fundamentally due to patriotism, the tradition of fighting against foreign invaders, political awareness and organization that have become a real steel wall of the Vietnamese people against the enemy."

According to Mr. Oliviera, the Dien Bien Phu victory was a source of encouragement for many colonial nations in the world because Vietnam demonstrated the ability of a small nation with rudimentary weapons to win a war against a powerful colonial empire equipped with modern weapons.

Referring to Vietnam's achievements in recent years, Mr. Oliviera highly appreciated the country's admirable economic growth rate since Doi Moi, as well as the results achieved in hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Vietnam's export product structure has changed a lot from a country exporting rice, coffee and agricultural products, now Vietnam's export turnover has shifted to industrial products with high added value.

The Secretary General of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association emphasized that the Vietnamese revolution is a testament to Vietnam's ability to adapt to the country's specific and practical circumstances and the world context.

Today, Vietnam has been successfully carrying out the task of protecting peace, fighting against neo-colonialism and imperialism, holding high the flag of national independence, democracy and social progress, and carrying out the task of economic development and international cooperation.
