A fire has destroyed the roof and 36-meter-high bell tower of a 19th-century town hall building in southeastern Paris, France.
On the morning of January 27 (local time), more than 150 firefighters were mobilized to control a fire at the district hall in the French capital Paris. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
It took firefighters three hours to bring the blaze under control in the 12th arrondissement in southeastern Paris. The fire destroyed the roof and 36-meter-high bell tower of the 19th-century building.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the fire. The fire broke out in the upper part of the roof of the building and although the fire has been brought under control, the tower is at risk of collapsing.
Although the cause is under investigation, authorities say it is unlikely to be an act of sabotage.
The fire is reminiscent of the 2019 fire that destroyed the spire of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. After half a decade of restoration, the cathedral reopened with a new spire in late 2024.
