The group of scammers lured women to recruit contestants to promote the 2024 Giap Thin Spring Ao Dai Festival, then asked them to access a fake VTV website to steal information and request money transfers.
On December 6, Ho Chi Minh City Police issued a warning about the above-mentioned tricks targeting women.
The new feature of this scam is that the subjects change information, taking advantage of the Tet holiday and the spring of Giap Thin 2024 to lure victims.
It is known that this trick was discovered by the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - Ho Chi Minh City Police when receiving denunciations from people and promptly prevented the victims from transferring money to the scammers.
Their trick is to create a social networking site "Promoting the 2024 Giap Thin Spring Ao Dai Festival" to post information about recruiting contestants for the Ao Dai contest, with attractive prizes and many accompanying benefits.
When women contact them, they will be lured to visit a fake website of Vietnam Television (VTV).
The group approached, collected information from victims and asked them to transfer money to designated accounts. The subjects told the victims that the money was to complete online challenges, under the name of program rules, advertising to help sponsors or many other reasons.
Ho Chi Minh City Police advise everyone to be absolutely vigilant, not to participate in contests and festivals advertised online without directly verifying and checking information in real life; do not transfer money as requested to avoid being scammed.
