On January 11, many southern US states tried to return to normal life after a week-long snowstorm that closed schools, paralyzed traffic and canceled flights.

Major airports, including those in Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina, continue to experience disruptions.

According to tracking software FlightAware, as of the afternoon of January 11 local time, about 1,000 flights to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport had been canceled or delayed.

Hail left 110,000 people in Georgia without power on the night of January 10.

In Richmond, the capital of Virginia, about 200,000 people were affected by water outages.

Many cities have already seen more snow than their average yearly total during this storm. As of 7 a.m. local time on January 11, some mountainous areas in western North Carolina and central Tennessee had still recorded 11 to 15 centimeters of snowfall in a 24-hour period.

The US weather agency is forecasting snow showers in the Appalachian Mountains and New England. Temperatures will continue to drop sharply after sunset, increasing the risk that melted snow will refreeze, making roads slippery and dangerous.
