On the morning of August 7, two semi-final matches took place to determine the names entering the final of women's football at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the first semi-final, the US women's soccer team faced Germany. The two teams had met in the group stage when the US won 4-1.
However, when they met again in the semi-finals, the German women's football team learned a lot from the previous defeat. Germany's tight play made it very difficult for the US to find scoring opportunities.
The scoreless draw lasted for 90 minutes of regulation time. Olivia Smith scored the only goal of the match in the 95th minute of the first extra time, helping the US qualify for the women's football final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The other semi-final sees Brazil and Spain meet. The two teams also met in the group stage, with Spain winning 2-0 and Brazil progressing to the quarter-finals as one of the best third-placed teams.
But the scenario in the semi-final was completely opposite to the group stage. Brazil opened the scoring early with an own goal by Irene Hernandez in the 6th minute, then continuously widened the gap with goals from Gabi Portilho and Adriana.
Spain struggled to find an equalizer and got two goals from Paralluelo in the final minutes of the match. But in the 90+2 minute, Kerolin scored to seal a 4-2 victory for the Brazilian women's team, thereby entering the final of the women's football at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The bronze medal match between Spain and Germany will take place at 8pm on August 9. The women's football final of the Paris 2024 Olympics between Brazil and the United States will take place at 10pm on August 10.
