In order to contribute to widely disseminating the significance, stature and great historical value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, to arouse and promote the tradition of patriotism; to honor and express deep gratitude to the heroes who sacrificed their blood and bones, contributing to the cause of national liberation and unification, from mid-March, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) decided to add the stamp theme commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory to this year's postage stamp theme program.

Many tasks have been carried out by the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam Post Corporation and related agencies and units so that the postage stamp set "Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2024)" can be launched in time for the military and people of the whole country to celebrate an important milestone in the nation's history.

As part of a series of events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory, the eighth set of postage stamps commemorating the Dien Bien Phu Victory is expected to be issued in a special ceremony in Dien Bien province on May 5.

Including 4 borderless stamps measuring 43 x 32 mm, with face values of 4,000 VND, 6,000 VND and 15,000 VND, the postage stamp set "Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2024)" was designed by artist Nguyen Du of Vietnam Post to create continuity. The background throughout this postage stamp set is the Dien Bien Phu basin from the glorious past to innovation and development. The layout is designed with highlights in each sample; However, when arranging the 4 stamps in a row, viewers will see the direction of opening from dark to light.

The content and images selected for inclusion in this stamp set about the Dien Bien Phu victory do not repeat the content shown on previous stamp sets with the same theme, which have been periodically issued every 10 years since 1954 until now.

Specifically, on the background of a series of designs showing the whole Dien Bien Phu basin, the 4 stamps of the postage stamp set to be issued on May 5 have 4 separate themes: Fighting only when sure of victory; The whole country goes to battle; Unforgettable song and Prosperity and happiness.

The four stamp designs also have four different color tones, but overall the entire stamp set has been designed by the artist to transition from warm colors to cool green, from war to peace and the green of hope for a bright future. Thai ethnic motifs are arranged below as a background, contributing to honoring the cultural diversity and indigenous nature of the local people.

Artist Nguyen Du, who has been involved in stamp design for many years, is the designer of the stamp set celebrating the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.

According to artist Nguyen Du, in addition to the pressure of a tight deadline, the artist who designed the new stamp set commemorating the Dien Bien Phu Victory also faced a big challenge in how to convey a new message, find a new direction, and have content and form that are not repetitive but still attractive. Because the theme of stamps commemorating this important historical event has been shown on many stamp sets of Vietnam Post.

"But above all, as artists specializing in stamp design, we are very proud to be able to contribute a small part to the series of activities celebrating the country's major events in 2024, including the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. In the process of designing this stamp set, I felt like I was in tune with the fiery atmosphere of the artillery troops charging into battle or the excitement and enthusiasm of the frontline workers...", artist Nguyen Du confided.
