Ministry of Public Security arrests "pimp" running prostitution with models, actors, singers

On January 30, the leader of the Criminal Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said that they had initiated a case, prosecuted the accused, and detained Nguyen Huu Thai (26 years old, residing in Tan Phu district) to investigate the act of prostitution brokerage.

After the investigation, the Criminal Police Department presided over and coordinated with local police to conduct an administrative inspection at a hotel in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, discovering two male and female couples engaging in prostitution.

Since then, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has summoned and urgently searched Thai's residence, seized related documents and objects such as cash, savings books and frozen his bank account with an amount of more than 8.5 billion VND... At the same time, Thai also admitted to the act of brokering prostitution for the two couples above.

According to the Investigation Police Agency, Thai has a previous conviction for illegal possession of drugs (2 years in prison, released on June 2, 2022). After being released from prison, from August 2022, Thai used fake accounts (female avatars) to participate in closed groups related to prostitution activities on the social network Zalo in many provinces and cities across the country.

Thai's purpose in joining the above groups was to find girls who wanted to sell sex in order to collect information, select and attract these people to work for the prostitution ring run by Thai.

Along with that, Thai created and bought closed Telegram groups and Thai retained the right to manage and operate with fake accounts to operate with the purpose of gathering people who want to learn about prostitutes and buy sex for illegal profit. Members who want to join the Telegram group created by Thai must pay a fee before Thai approves them to join the group.

When a customer wants to buy sex, they can view the information of prostitutes on the group and directly contact Thai so that Thai can send photos and personal information for selection. If any member chooses a satisfactory prostitute to buy sex, they can contact Thai to negotiate the amount of money for prostitution. Thai negotiates the price of prostitution from 5 million VND to hundreds of millions of VND depending on the level of fame of the prostitute.

Runs 7 closed groups with 65,992 members

At the time of the case, the police determined that Thai had created, managed and operated 7 closed groups with a total of 65,992 members. At the time of Thai's arrest, many people were still sending money to his account to be approved to join the closed groups. According to Thai's statement, members of the groups were located in most provinces and cities in the country and even abroad.

On these closed groups, Thai posted newspaper links, pictures, names, codes, birth years, height, weight, measurements and prices of prostitutes to broker prostitution.

Police determined that the number of prostitutes brokered by Thai was up to thousands; the composition of prostitutes was very diverse, including professional prostitutes, students, models, actors, singers, KOLs... Notably, Thai regularly updated prostitutes, at the time he was arrested, there were still dozens of prostitutes waiting for Thai's approval to post on private groups for the "pimp" to broker prostitution.

According to Thai's testimony, from the time he joined prostitution brokerage through closed groups until he was discovered, Thai had illegally profited from membership fees of members and prostitution brokerage money of more than 15 billion VND.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department is continuing to investigate and clarify Thai's illegal profits from this prostitution brokerage activity.
