Low pressure appears in the East Sea connected to storm number 5, Central region still has heavy rain

A low pressure trough has appeared in the East Sea, connecting with storm Krathon (storm number 5), causing thunderstorms in the sea area from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa. The North is cold at night and in the morning, with some places experiencing cold weather; the Central region is experiencing heavy rain.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4:00 p.m. on October 2, the center of storm No. 5 (Krathon) was located in the northeastern sea of ​​the North East Sea. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 14 (150-166 km/h), gusting to level 17; moving in a North-Northeast direction at a speed of 5-10 km/h.

According to current forecasts, storm Krathon is unlikely to affect coastal waters and mainland Vietnam.

Also on the same afternoon, the meteorological agency informed that currently, the low pressure trough has an axis at about 15-20 degrees North latitude connecting with storm number 5.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the low pressure trough with its axis through the Central region connects with storm No. 5 (Krathon) moving towards Taiwan (China) and then gradually weakens.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the low pressure trough and storm No. 5 will cause strong thunderstorms in the East Sea. Specifically, tonight and tomorrow, October 3, the northeastern sea area of ​​the North East Sea (north of latitude 19.0N; east of longitude 117.5E) will have storms, strong winds of level 9-11, near the storm center level 13-15, gusting over level 17; waves 8-10m high, rough seas.

Also at this time, the sea area from Thua Thien Hue to Khanh Hoa will have showers and thunderstorms. Tonight, the Gulf of Tonkin and the sea area from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh will have strong winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7; rough seas; waves 2-3m high.

Forecast, on the night of October 3 and the day of October 4, the sea in the northeast of the North East Sea (north of latitude 19.5N; east of longitude 118.0E) will have strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9. The sea will be rough. Waves will be 2-4m high; 3-5m in the east.

Risk level of natural disasters due to strong winds at sea: level 2, especially in the northeastern sea area of ​​the North East Sea, level 3. All ships operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong winds and big waves.

Central region still has local heavy rain

On land, the northern provinces and cities are being affected by cold air, so the weather is chilly at night and in the morning, especially in mountainous areas. In the evening and tonight, the cold air continues to diffuse deep into the south, causing localized heavy rain, some places with very heavy rain in the area from Thua Thien Hue to Binh Dinh, with common rainfall from 20-40mm, some places over 80mm; from October 3, heavy rain will gradually decrease.

According to the meteorological agency, in October, storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea and affecting Vietnam's mainland are likely to be at a level close to or higher than the average of many years in the same period (average of many years in the East Sea: 2 storms; landfall: 0.8 storms).

Also in October, cold air continues to increase in frequency and intensity.

Notably, this is the beginning of the rainy season in the Central region, with the possibility of widespread heavy rains. Total rainfall nationwide is generally at approximately the average level of many years, with the Central region being 10-30% higher than the average of many years during the same period.
