Chi Linh Leprosy Hospital is treating 96 leprosy patients. Most of them are elderly, many of them over 80 years old. Recently, the hospital received 3 more leprosy patients under 24 years old from Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces.

According to specialist doctor I Nguyen Thi Anh, Deputy Head of the Examination Department, Chi Linh Leprosy Hospital, leprosy has been eradicated since 2000. However, the prevalence rate still remains, concentrated in mountainous provinces and sporadic cases have been recorded in different age groups.

Doctor Anh recommends that when people see changes in skin pigmentation, such as increased or decreased pigmentation, numbness, or loss of sensation, they should go to a specialized dermatology facility for examination and early treatment to avoid complications and sequelae of leprosy.

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. The disease progresses over a long period of time and, if not detected and treated promptly, can cause severe disability.
