Recently there have been many cases of dog bite accidents occurring in children.

On June 6, Hung Vuong General Hospital (Phu Tho province) announced that it had just received a case of an 18-month-old boy who was bitten by a dog and suffered multiple injuries.

The patient was taken to the emergency room by his family in a state of fear. Initial examination revealed many lacerations, exposed skull bones, CT scan results confirmed pneumothorax and subdural hemorrhage, collapsed skull bones, no palpable peripheral lymph nodes, a wound on the top of the head about 3cm in size...

Doctors quickly treated shock, pain, and wounds, explained the situation to the family, and then administered rabies vaccination according to protocol.

After consultation, the doctors agreed to perform surgery to treat the wound. After surgery, the patient was alert, played, slept well, and all vital signs were within acceptable limits. The patient was transferred to the Orthopedic Trauma Department for further treatment and monitoring.

Recently, the hospital has continuously received many cases of dog bite accidents in children, mainly due to the carelessness of adults.

Families need to keep and muzzle dogs and cats, not let them roam freely, and children should not have close contact with dangerous animals to avoid unfortunate incidents.

Parents must vaccinate their children within 24 hours of being bitten by a dog. Especially in cases of dog bites, the wound must be thoroughly washed for 15 minutes with water and soap or clean water. Then disinfect with 45°-70° alcohol or iodine alcohol to reduce the amount of rabies virus at the bite.
