The EURO 2024 semi-finals promise to be dramatic with two fateful matches - Spain vs France, while the Netherlands vs England.
According to the bracket, Spain and France will face each other in the "big battle" in the first semi-final, taking place at Allianz Arena (Munich) at 2:00 a.m. on July 10 (Vietnam time).
Spain-France is considered a fateful match as the two teams have faced each other many times in all competitions.
Before this encounter, the two teams had met 36 times in history. Spain had the upper hand in terms of wins, winning 16 matches compared to France's 13.
However, France has the upper hand over Spain when it comes to the number of wins in official tournaments. The Blues have won six matches while La Roja have only won two.
The most notable of those matches was France's 2-0 victory over Spain in the EURO 1984 final. The victory brought France to the throne for the first time in the EURO arena.
Spain and France are also the two most successful teams of the four teams in the semi-finals. Spain have won the championship three times and France have won it twice.
At this year's EURO, Spain under the leadership of Coach Luis de la Fuente is showing extremely impressive performance.
La Roja is the only team to have won all 5 matches played, including a dramatic 2-1 victory over Germany in the "early final" of EURO 2024.
Meanwhile, the French team struggled on their way to the semi-finals. The "Roosters" only won second place in the group, then defeated Belgium 1-0 in the round of 16 and overcame Portugal in a lucky penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.
France are also the team with the fewest goals scored among the four semi-finalists. Didier Deschamps's students have only scored exactly 3 goals since the beginning of the tournament, including 2 goals from own goals.
In contrast to France, Spain's strikers played impressively and scored a total of 11 goals - only the home team Germany had as many as them.
Obviously, with current form, Spain is rated higher than France in the upcoming confrontation.
France coach Didier Deschamps also commented: "There is no doubt that Spain is the strongest team at the moment. I have watched some of their matches and seen impressive form."
But, he also affirmed: "They are not highly rated, but now we have to give credit. However, as always, we will fight to reach the final."
Meanwhile, the remaining semi-final is the clash between England and the Netherlands.
According to statistics, England and the Netherlands have faced each other 23 times in history; the head-to-head record is quite balanced. The Three Lions have won 7 times, the Orange Hurricane has won 7 times, and the remaining 9 times have ended in a draw.
If we count the last 10 encounters, the Netherlands is the team that has the advantage over its opponent with 4 wins and England has 2 wins.
The last time the two teams met was in June 2019 in the UEFA Nations League. The Netherlands came from behind to beat the Three Lions 3-1 after 120 minutes thanks to goals from De Ligt, Promes and an own goal from Walker.
The Netherlands are also in impressive form in this year's tournament and it feels like they are getting better as they go further into the tournament.
After finishing third in Group D, the Netherlands impressed with a 3-0 win over Romania in the round of 16 and then came from behind to beat Türkiye with a dramatic 2-1 win.
Meanwhile, the England team, despite reaching the semi-finals of EURO 2024, has yet to bring peace of mind to fans.
Coach Gareth Southgate's team won first place in Group C with only 5 points and scored only 2 goals.
They then escaped defeat in the round of 16 with a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Slovakia and could only advance to the semi-finals with a lucky 5-3 win over Switzerland in a penalty shootout (1-1 draw after 120 minutes).
However, the task of winning against England will certainly not be an easy one for coach Ronald Koeman and his team.
When assessing the upcoming match, Mr. Ronald Koeman said: "England have good players but so do we. We are in the EURO semi-finals and the strength of the teams is equal. If England wants to attack, the Netherlands is also ready."
The Dutch coach also revealed who he would like to face in the final. "If we reach the final, I would prefer to face Spain because we met France in the group stage."
According to the match schedule, the match between England and the Netherlands will take place at 2:00 a.m. on July 11 (Vietnam time) at Signal Iduna Park.
Supercomputer Opta rates Spain as the number 1 candidate for the EURO 2024 championship. Coach Luis de la Fuente's team has a 30.38% chance of becoming the first team to win the championship four times.
Meanwhile, the French team ranked second with a 29.9% chance of dominating European football for the third time in history.
From the leading position, England has now dropped to third place with a 22.85% chance of winning the EURO for the first time.
