Three Vietnamese teams have just won one silver medal and two bronze medals at the final round of the ICPC Asia-Pacific regional programming contest.
According to the announcement from the organizing committee of the final round of the ICPC Asia-Pacific International Collegiate Programming Contest, on the evening of March 2, the team that won the silver medal was team Sudo, from the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The two Vietnamese teams that won bronze medals were HCMUS-ExploringWorld (University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) and HUST Kite (Hanoi University of Science and Technology).
Previously, from 9am to 2pm on March 2, 65 teams from 40 prestigious universities in the Asia-Pacific region had to solve 13 algorithmic problems to win the highest rankings and positions to represent Asia-Pacific to attend the ICPC global final in 2024, taking place in September in Kazakhstan.
The championship title belongs to the NewTrend team of Seoul National University with a total of 9 solved problems. Previously, in December 2023, the NewTrend team also won the ICPC Asia Hue City 2023 championship.
The three gold medal winning teams were from the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University (Japan) and the National University of Singapore.
Four silver medals went to the Sudo team of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the teams of the Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), Soongsil University (Korea) and the University of Indonesia (Indonesia).
The five bronze medal winning teams included two teams from Vietnam, National Taiwan University, Pohang University of Science and Technology (South Korea) and Nayang University of Technology (Singapore).
The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) has a history of more than 50 years and is known as the oldest, largest and most prestigious programming contest for university students worldwide.
Through the exam, students develop creativity, teamwork, create innovation in building software programs and allow testing of performance capacity under very high time pressure.
This year's ICPC Asia-Pacific Regional Final is held for the first time in Vietnam, hosted by the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the Council of the University of Technology, highly appreciated the dedication of the 65 teams competing in the ICPC Asia-Pacific finals.

Vietnam officially registered for the ICPC international student programming contest since 2005, and first hosted the regional qualifying round of the ICPC Asia contest at the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi in April 2006.
From 2006 to present, for 19 consecutive years, Vietnam has been in the top 100-140 universities with representatives attending the global ICPC finals with the highest rank of 12 - bronze medal in 2022.
