September 5, 2022 05:50

On the morning of September 5, about 23 million students nationwide attended the opening ceremony of the 2022-2023 school year directly at school after two years of having to combine many forms due to the impact of Covid-19.

The day before the opening ceremony, Hoang Minh Anh (grade three) and her mother and younger sister (grade one) took the opportunity to get a haircut and buy new sandals. After returning from a long vacation with her family, the little girl in Ha Dong district (Hanoi) was busy preparing her books, notebooks, and school supplies, then putting them in her school bag.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Minh Anh's mother, said that her daughter was worried because she had not received a new uniform, while the old one from last year no longer fit her. "Every day, she reminded me to go to school and ask if there were any uniforms yet. A few days ago, I was able to get two sets for both of them, and they were both very excited," Ms. Hong said, adding that her children changed and tried on the new clothes several times before the first day of school.

On the evening of September 4, Minh Anh and her sister told each other to go to bed early to start the new school year today. Even though they had been at school for two weeks to get used to the learning routine, they were still excited to join in the atmosphere of the school festival with their friends from all over the country.

In Viet Tri City (Phu Tho), Duong Minh Tien, a 5th grader, prepared his uniform, red scarf, and sandals next to his bed before going to sleep the night before the first day of school. "I was afraid I would be late so I prepared them in advance," Tien said.

On the morning of September 4, in the cool weather, Tien went to school to rehearse the opening ceremony with his friends. He was very excited to be a senior and to hold the flag to welcome the first graders to school. The male student hopes that the new school year will be fun and that he will continue to achieve the title of excellent student to please his grandparents and parents.

First graders at Dinh Tien Hoang School, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, returned to school on August 22.

After two years of being affected by Covid-19, the opening ceremony had to be held in person combined with online and television. This year, localities simultaneously opened the school year in person on the morning of September 5. Following the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training, schools planned a concise opening ceremony to create a joyful and exciting atmosphere for students.

Many schools incorporate practical activities into the opening ceremony with specific themes. Tue Duc Green School (Hanoi) offers the theme "School year of gratitude" with many activities such as "Gratitude" tea drinking, foot washing to show gratitude to parents, and exchange activities about gratitude to help students understand, appreciate and be grateful for what they own and exist around them, from people to trees, water and themselves.

On the local side, to prepare for the new school year, many provinces and cities have stepped up Covid-19 vaccination for students since the beginning of August, while simultaneously building, repairing, and upgrading many schools and classrooms; finding ways to overcome the local surplus - shortage of teachers.

In a letter to the education sector on the occasion of the opening of the 2022-2023 school year, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked all managers, teachers, and staff to make efforts, unite, be creative, overcome difficulties, perform well in their duties, and promote a sense of responsibility for their profession and beloved students for the cause of educating people.

The President also hopes that parents will pay more attention to their children's education; remind students to promote the nation's tradition of studiousness, absorb the intellectual quintessence of humanity, have the aspiration to contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous country.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that a new school year begins with full ofchallengeforward, such as overcoming the severe consequences left by the epidemic, innovating general education, improving the quality and developing the system of higher education institutions, universalizing education, strengthening and creating trust towards society.

"I hope that all teachers will try their best, strive to improve themselves and innovate to successfully complete the renovation process. I also hope that all students will successfully complete their learning and training tasks to achieve the goals of becoming good citizens and high-quality human resources for society," said Mr. Son. The education sector's leaders also hope that parents will share the difficulties of the sector so that they can accompany and support each other to bring about the best educational results.
