On the afternoon of August 25, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang reaffirmed that Vietnam rejects the so-called "nine-dash line" as well as maritime claims that are contrary to international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Responding to press questions about the World Meteorological Organization's website using a map with a "nine-dash line" that violates Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang stated: Vietnam considers all forms of propaganda, promotion and posting of content and images that violate Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos as well as Vietnam's national sovereignty and jurisdiction over related maritime areas in the East Sea established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to be invalid.
“Vietnam requests that countries and organizations respect Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos as well as related waters in the East Sea; remove and modify such inappropriate content,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said that representatives of the Vietnamese permanent delegation to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations in Geneva discussed this matter with representatives of the World Meteorological Organization.
