Authorities said the pickup truck was carrying workers home after picking leaves in the forest when it crashed.
At least 17 people were killed and eight others injured after a pickup truck they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said on May 20.
The accident occurred near Bahpani village, Kabirdham district, about 173km northwest of Raipur - the capital of Chhattisgarh state.
Authorities said the pickup truck was carrying 25 workers returning home after picking leaves in the forest.
Local media reported that the workers belonged to the Baiga tribal community, which specializes in making bidi - a type of hand-rolled tobacco.
