Fake news about an officer killed in Uganda spreads on social media
The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, Ministry of National Defense, said that information circulating online about an officer dying in Uganda is fake news.
On February 9, information from the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, Ministry of National Defense said that the unit is verifying a subject spreading fake news on social media about the death of a Peacekeeping Department officer in Uganda.
Specifically, an account on the social network Tik Tok named Dao Minh T., with a picture wearing the uniform of the Vietnam People's Army, posted the information: "Comrade Nguyen Van Thai - Deputy Captain of Company 2, assistant to the United Nations Peace Mission, died at 3:55 am in Uganda. My condolences to his family."

This information quickly attracted attention on social networks, causing many people to wonder about the authenticity of the information.
A representative of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department said: "The force does not have any comrade named Nguyen Van Thai, the information posted is fake. We are currently verifying and clarifying the subject who posted the fake news on social media."
The 2018 Law on Cyber Security strictly prohibits the act of providing false information that causes panic among the people, damages socio-economic activities, and causes difficulties for the activities of State agencies or public servants. Those who commit this act causing dangerous consequences to society will be criminally prosecuted according to the provisions of Clause 1, Article 288 of the 2015 Penal Code on "Crime of illegally providing or using information on computer networks and telecommunications networks" with a prison sentence of up to 3 years.
