On October 7, at Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area (Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province), the 2023 Then Singing and Tinh Instrument Performance Program took place with the participation of 1,000 people.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Record Organization awarded the Certificate and Commemorative Medal for the record-setting performance of Then singing and Tinh lute with the largest number of participants in Vietnam with the theme "Origin and Identity of Then Tinh Cao Bang" to the People's Committee of Cao Bang province.
The 2023 Then singing and Tinh lute program includes the songs: Ban Gioc Moonlight (composed by Pham Tinh); Road to my village (composed by Dam Thanh); Flowers of my hometown forest (composed by Hoa Cuong). Participating in the program are 1,000 artists and extras, all wearing original Tay and Nung costumes to perform. This is the highlight of the 2023 Ban Gioc Waterfall Festival. The event attracted a large number of tourists; at the same time, it set a record for the largest number of people wearing traditional costumes performing Then singing and Tinh lute in Vietnam.
The activity aims to promote the beauty of Ban Gioc waterfall in particular and Cao Bang province in general to attract tourists to Trung Khanh district and Cao Bang province. This is also an opportunity to promote, preserve, promote and conserve the cultural values of the traditional art form of Then singing and Tinh lute, contributing to widely promoting this unique traditional art form. Thereby, strongly promoting the development of local tourism, promoting the value of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark.
On December 12, 2019, at the 14th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of 2003 held in Bogota, the capital of the Republic of Colombia, "Then practice of the Tay, Nung, Thai people in Vietnam" was officially inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In Cao Bang, Then Tinh is a unique folk song of the Tay and Nung people. Then singing occupies an important position in the rich and diverse folk song and dance repertoire of the people here; it is often performed during holidays, Tet, and longevity celebrations of ethnic minorities. The smooth, profound Then melody, along with the high-pitched sound of the Tinh instrument, has attracted and left a deep impression on the minds of generations of people in Cao Bang province and domestic and foreign tourists.
