VinFast has just announced a voluntary recall program for 15,896 VF 8 vehicles in Vietnam to upgrade the center airbag for free.
A statement from VinFast said that during the company's crash test program in the US, a VF 8 experienced a phenomenon where the middle airbag (on the right side of the driver's seat) touched the right hand of the dummy on the driver's seat during the explosion. "VinFast continued to research and confirmed that the above phenomenon only occurred in less than 10% of the tests. In fact, the company has not recorded any similar cases occurring globally," said a company representative.
Accordingly, the center airbag on the VF 8 is manufactured by a supplier in Korea, and the company announced that it meets the regulations in countries where this model is being sold, including the US, Europe, Canada, Gulf countries and Vietnam. The D-size electric SUV also passed the tests and was awarded a 5-star safety certificate by ASEAN NCAP.
"However, to further improve product quality and customer safety, VinFast has notified the Vietnam Register and received approval to implement a voluntary recall program to upgrade the center airbag for affected VF 8 vehicles free of charge," a statement from VinFast said.
Accordingly, the recall program includes 15,896 VF 8 vehicles manufactured between August 2022 and December 2024 currently in circulation in Vietnam.
VinFast will contact users to notify them of the program, with an estimated replacement time of 45 minutes per vehicle, completely free of charge.
The implementation period of this program was announced by the company from April 21, 2025 to April 20, 2027, at VinFast authorized service workshops nationwide.
