VinFast VF 8 is the only electric car model in the D-class SUV segment. For about more than 1 billion VND, the same price as VinFast VF 8, users can refer to the following options.
VinFast VF 8 is an electric car in the D-segment SUV segment, launched globally and officially delivered to Vietnamese users in September 2022. VF 8 has two versions Eco and Plus, currently people can choose SDI or CATL batteries, battery rental packages or buy batteries outright, VinFast VF 8 car prices range from 1.09-1.544 billion VND.
The VinFast VF 8 electric car is equipped with two electric motors on the front and rear axles, the Eco version has a capacity of 350 horsepower and 500Nm, the more advanced Plus version has an engine capacity of 402 horsepower and 620Nm. Both versions are equipped with a full-time four-wheel drive system. Compared to other models in the segment, the VF 8 has the most powerful capacity, accelerating from 0-100km/h in just under 5.5 seconds.
The strength of VinFast VF 8 lies in its ability to operate on batteries and electric motors, which helps save energy effectively. According to the manufacturer's specifications, VinFast VF 8 can travel up to 471 km when using a CATL battery with a capacity of 87.7 kWh. With a charging price of 3,858 VND/kWh, customers only spend about 340,000 VND to fully charge the car's battery, which translates to about 720 VND per km (theoretically). This cost is 3-5 times cheaper than cars using gasoline or diesel engines.
However, the current disadvantage of electric vehicles is the charging time compared to normal gas/diesel refueling, which takes 3-5 minutes.

Hyundai Santa Fe high-end diesel engine priced at 1.269 billion VND
Hyundai Santa Fe currently sold in Vietnam is of the old generation, with 4 versions using internal combustion engines and one version using a hybrid engine, prices ranging from 1.029-1.369 billion VND. Of which, the high-end diesel Santa Fe version is quite popular.
The price of the high-end Hyundai Santa Fe diesel is listed at 1.269 billion VND, equal to the price of the VinFast VF 8 Plus excluding the battery, which is listed at 1.27 billion VND.
Compared to the VinFast VF 8, the high-end diesel Santa Fe has 7 seats, 5 + 2 configuration, in which the 3rd row of seats is suitable for children. The Korean brand car is equipped with a turbocharged diesel engine, 202 horsepower and 440 Nm. The car uses an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel drive system.
The diesel engine on this model is also highly appreciated by users for its durability, economy and smoothness. Refueling the car is also faster than waiting for the battery to charge on the VF 8. Furthermore, the full-time four-wheel drive system, HTRAC technology on the Santa Fe can distribute the traction ratio depending on the driving modes, making operation more flexible.
However, the design of Hyundai Santa Fe is not too impressive, the interior design is complained to be confusing because of many buttons. Moreover, the new generation Santa Fe has also been officially launched, will be coming to Vietnam in the near future. Users choosing Hyundai Santa Fe at the present time need to consider this issue.
Ford Everest Platinum price 1.545 billion VND
The new generation Ford Everest was launched in Vietnam in July 2022 with four versions, adding the Wildtrak version in March 2023 and most recently on April 11, 2024, the Platinum version was officially added.
Ford Everest Platinum has a selling price of 1.545 billion VND, equal to the price of VinFast VF 8 Plus including CATL battery, priced at 1.544 billion VND.
In terms of size, the Ford Everest, although a D-class vehicle, is comparable in size to an E-class vehicle and is the largest in its segment today. Compared to the VF 8 electric vehicle, the Everest will have three rows of seats, 7 spacious seats for users. The vehicle is still equipped with a 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine, 207 horsepower and 500Nm. The vehicle uses a 10-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel drive and 6 driving modes.
The advantage of the Ford Everest Platinum lies in its body-on frame structure, which helps it go off-road better than the VF 8's monolithic structure. In addition, the Platinum version is also equipped with many impressive amenities such as: electric folding 3rd row seats, 12 B&O speakers, matrix LED lights, etc.
The trade-off is that the Everest Platinum’s acceleration will not be as “explosive” and its operating cost savings will not be more impressive than the VF 8 Plus electric vehicle. Currently, Ford recommends that users use DO 0.001SV oil to ensure durability and warranty if there are engine problems. However, this type of oil is not yet popular, which is also a drawback that users need to pay attention to.
KIA Sorento Hybrid Signature price 1,299 billion VND
KIA Sorento belongs to the D-class SUV segment, on par with VinFast VF 8. The Hybrid version of this car line will be launched in the Vietnamese market at the end of 2022 with two Hybrid versions and two Plug-in Hybrid versions, priced from 1.399-1.759 billion VND.
However, the car price has now dropped sharply. The Sorento Hybrid Signature version, previously priced at VND 1.539 billion, is now listed at VND 1.299 billion, equal to the price of the VinFast VF 8 Eco including SDI battery, priced at VND 1.29 billion.
The advantage of the KIA Sorento Hybrid is that it is equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine and electric motor, producing a total capacity of 227 horsepower and 350Nm. The car uses a 6-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel drive system. Thanks to the hybrid engine, the car has a combined fuel consumption of only 5.8L/100km, more economical than cars that only use internal combustion engines but still not as economical as the VinFast VF 8.
The KIA Sorento Hybrid Signature is also a worthy option if you don't buy the VinFast VF 8. This model is spacious for a family of 7, has relatively good performance thanks to the all-wheel drive system and impressive fuel economy.
Peugeot 5008 GT price 1,199 billion VND
The upgraded Peugeot 5008 was launched in the Vietnamese market at the end of November 2021. The car has two versions, Premium and GT, priced at 1.109 and 1.199 billion VND respectively. With this price, the Peugeot 5008 GT will be more expensive than the listed price of the VinFast VF 8 Eco excluding the CATL battery of 1.145 billion VND (a difference of 54 million VND).
Peugeot 5008 GT is a French brand car, assembled and distributed by THACO. This car model has a 7-seat configuration in 5+2 style. Compared to Santa Fe and Sorento, the 3rd row of seats on the 5008 GT is limited in size so it is not highly appreciated. Both versions of Peugeot 5008 are equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged engine, 165 horsepower and 245Nm, using a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
The amenities of the Peugeot 5008 GT are not too impressive compared to the VinFast VF 8 Eco. This model is convenient for long-distance travel, without having to wait for charging like the VF 8 electric car. Although not a very outstanding choice, the Peugeot 5008 GT will still be suitable for customers who like stylish, modern design and a brand from Europe.
