General Secretary To Lam and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially announced the upgrading of Vietnam-Indonesia relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new era for cooperation between the two countries.
Within the framework of the State visit to the Republic of Indonesia, on the afternoon of March 10, right after the talks, General Secretary To Lam and President of the Republic of Indonesia, Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto chaired a press conference to inform about the results of the talks and officially announce the upgrading of Vietnam - Indonesia relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Speaking to the press, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his delight at welcoming General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, to pay a State visit on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (December 30, 1945 - December 30, 2025). The two countries have many similarities and similar goals in achieving national development goals on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country. On this occasion, the two sides upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Indonesian President shared that in the field of economic integration, the two sides agreed to strive to soon reach 18 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover towards balance; and welcomed Vietnam to increase investment in Indonesia.
The two sides also agreed to promote cooperation in specialized fields, expand cooperation in science and technology, innovation, information technology, towards building digital partnerships, digital economy, and strengthening cooperation in new fields such as green economy, digital economy, innovation, science and technology, digital transformation, etc.
The two leaders appreciated the two countries' regular coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums and organizations, especially at ASEAN.
The Indonesian President said he will soon visit Vietnam and welcomed the signed agreements, hoping that the cooperation agreements will bring practical results, contributing to the socio-economic development of the two countries.
Speaking at the press conference, General Secretary To Lam happily announced that the talks were very successful in the spirit of openness, frankness, sincerity and mutual understanding.
The two sides discussed the situation in each country, bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. Both sides were very pleased to see that after more than 70 years of diplomatic relations, including more than 10 years of strategic partnership, cooperation between the two countries has developed strongly, deeply and extensively, with increased political trust.
The General Secretary congratulated and highly appreciated the achievements and developments in all aspects that the Indonesian people and Government have achieved in recent times. The Indonesian Government, led by President Prabowo Subianto, has resolutely and effectively implemented many major policies, strengthened national self-reliance and development, placed people at the center, promoted its role and position in the region and the world, and actively contributed to peace, stability and development; he believed that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia will firmly realize the success of the "Vision 2045", becoming a developed country by the time of the 100th anniversary of its founding, with an increasingly greater international position.
The General Secretary said that during the talks, the two sides agreed that the Vietnam-Indonesia relationship has developed well in recent times, with increasing depth and effectiveness in all areas. Exchanges of high-level delegations and bilateral cooperation mechanisms have been maintained regularly. Cooperation in the fields of defense, security, trade and investment, agriculture, aviation connectivity, tourism and people-to-people exchanges has become increasingly substantive and effective.
The two countries regularly coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN, the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, etc.; firmly uphold ASEAN's principled stance on regional and world security and development issues; promote sustainable and equitable development of sub-regions in the region, including the Mekong sub-region.
The General Secretary said that on the basis of the good traditional friendship, with solid achievements, mutual understanding and trust, sharing many similarities in strategic interests and priorities, as well as a common vision on security, prosperity, and sustainable development in the region, the two sides announced the upgrading of Vietnam - Indonesia relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia is a historic milestone, opening a new era for cooperation between the two countries in all channels and fields, bringing the relationship increasingly deeper, more substantive and effective, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Previously, General Secretary To Lam and President Prabowo Subianto witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries: Letter of Intent between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs of Indonesia on cooperation in capacity building in the field of technology and digital economy; Letter of Intent on cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation between the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of Indonesia; Agreement on implementing cooperation between the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam and the Directorate of Aquaculture, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia in the field of aquaculture.
