Some farmers in Thanh Cuong commune (Thanh Ha, Hai Duong) have trimmed ripe lychees to sell at 120,000 VND/kg, but this quantity is not much.
On May 5, some households in Thanh Cuong commune (Thanh Ha) pruned white egg lychee (the earliest lychee variety) to sell at 120,000 VND/kg, 10,000-20,000 VND/kg higher than last year.
This year, due to low lychee yields, lychee trees bear fruit sparsely, so there are ripe and unripe fruits on one tree. Therefore, harvesting is also difficult, the fruits do not ripen evenly, farmers have to prune and sell the early ripened fruits. If the weather is hot, early lychees will be harvested en masse from May 15. According to households, lychees are scarce, so customers order them all as soon as they arrive.
According to the Economic-Infrastructure Department of Thanh Ha district, white egg lychee was selected to be displayed at the conference to promote trade and consumption of lychee on May 9.
Thanh Ha currently has 1,900 hectares of early lychee, concentrated in the communes of Ha Dong area. Early lychee teas include: white egg lychee, spiny egg lychee, pink lychee, and hybrid lychee.
