Nguyen Trung Cuong, an athlete who participated in the 19th ASIAD, had a rare incident on the 15km run at the Hai Duong Province Open Cross-Country Race "Journey to Connect Cultural Heritage".
Trung Cuong participated in the 15km professional men's event of the first Hai Duong Province Open Cross-Country Race "Cultural Heritage Connection Journey" on February 26.
He finished first with a time of 47 minutes and 38 seconds. After the race ended, the runner from Ha Tinh revealed the special reason why he had to run faster than expected.
"The course was beautiful today, although there were a few hills," Trung Cuong shared. "But I had a little trouble because I was chased by a dog while running. From a pace of 3:20, I had to speed up, running at a pace below 3. Thanks to that, I finished with a time of 47 minutes and 38 seconds."
A spectator then posted a video online capturing the moment Trung Cuong was chased by a dog on the track. The author of the article also commented: "With his own efforts and the help and support of a local dog on the track, this athlete won first place in the 15km professional cross-country race."
This year, the Hai Duong province’s “Cultural Heritage Connection Journey” cross-country race took place in Con Son-Kiep Bac. The race attracted nearly 1,000 professional and amateur athletes, competing in distances of 5km, 10km and 15km, including many national athletes.
Trung Cuong, born in 2000, is the owner of the gold medal in the 3,000m obstacle course at the 32nd SEA Games with a time of 8 minutes 51 seconds 99. His wife is Vu Ngoc Anh, born in 2002, a black belt in taekwondo. The two met at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi.
