The working trip of Nam Sach District Youth Union (Hai Duong) to Lung Kinh school belonging to Quang Han Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School, Trung Khanh District (Cao Bang) contributed to bringing winter warmth to this highland area.
In the days near Tet, the weather turned cold, the volunteer bus of young people representing the youth of Nam Sach district departed at 4am on January 20, after nearly 8 hours arrived at Lung Kinh school belonging to Quang Han Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School, Trung Khanh district (Cao Bang) to bring meaningful gifts to children in mountainous areas with many difficulties.
The 2-day trip with 21 comrades from the Standing Committee of the District Youth Union, the Youth Union, and the Nam Sach District Pioneer Council. At nearly 12 noon, the car arrived at Lung Kinh school, where many commune officials, teachers, children, and local residents were waiting in the schoolyard to welcome the delegation. Many children had dark lips from the cold, were barefoot, wearing only a thin coat, their eyes seemed to be waiting for the delegation.
At Lung Kinh school, the delegation presented the youth project "Equipment for learning, water purifier and necessities" worth 20 million VND to Quang Han Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School; presented 42 gifts to students in especially difficult circumstances at the kindergarten and primary school; 10 gifts to poor families in the commune; 179 gifts including supplements and necessities to Ban Mac school and the main school of Quang Han Primary and Secondary School.
Ms. Nong Thi Luyen, Principal of Quang Han Primary and Secondary School, shared: “Most of the people here are Mong ethnic people, from poor households, living on slash-and-burn farming. Therefore, the students are also very poor, some of them have to wear warm clothes all week. The school has been built solidly by the State and philanthropists, but the facilities are still lacking.”
Receiving the gifts from the youth of Nam Sach district, Ms. Luyen emotionally added: "The gifts the delegation gave are extremely practical for the children in this cold winter, partly helping teachers and students to ease their difficulties and motivating us to try harder in teaching and learning."
The next journey of the delegation was to visit, encourage and give gifts to 3 poor households in the commune. The houses of the households were quite far from the school, each house was located on a different hillside. The dirt road was small, slippery and unpassable by vehicle, the members of the delegation had to walk uphill for nearly 1 km to get there. The houses were all dilapidated, shabby, with holes in the roofs. Each house had 5-6 people living, inside there were only small beds made of wooden panels, and there was nothing else of value. Their biggest asset was only a buffalo for pulling power.
Although the gifts from the youth of Nam Sach district were not large, they contributed to bringing joy and warmth to the poor households and students when Tet was approaching. This was also a warm-hearted trip that all members of the working delegation felt was very meaningful. Mr. Pham Ba Hung, Secretary of the Cong Hoa Commune Youth Union, said: “Witnessing the difficult and deprived lives of the children as well as the people here, I feel that the activities of the delegation are very timely and meaningful. I hope that in the future, the Nam Sach District Youth Union will continue to have more activities to help those in difficult circumstances.”
To make the trip a success, nearly a month ago, Nam Sach District Youth Union planned and launched all branches, calling on "Generous Donors" to support books, school supplies, necessities, new clothes... that are really necessary for the school, suitable for the needs of students and people. The total value of donations at this charity program is 110 million VND.
“Immediately after its launch, the program received enthusiastic support and response from cadres, union members, youth and philanthropists throughout the district. The program not only helps children and poor people in the highlands celebrate the traditional Tet holiday more happily and warmly, but is also an opportunity for each youth union member of the district to directly visit, understand and share with those in difficult circumstances, contributing to spreading love and sharing experiences with the community through practical and specific actions,” said Ms. Phung Thi Mai Anh, Secretary of the Nam Sach District Youth Union.
