Not following a professional path, teacher Nguyen Hung Hoang, born in 1983 in Tu Ky district (Hai Duong), chose to become a 'village teacher' to inspire the sports movement.
Passion from family tradition
Since childhood, Hoang, a boy in Van To commune (Tu Ky), was taught a love for sports by his grandfather, Nguyen Thanh Sen - a famous swimmer in the area.
Growing up in a family with a father and brother who had worn the Hai Duong jersey many times to participate in large and small sports competitions, this boy's passion for sports gradually seeped into him.
Continuing the family tradition, young man Nguyen Hung Hoang majored in wrestling and judo at Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports. After finishing his studies, Mr. Hoang applied to work in his hometown.
When asked why he did not pursue the path of a professional athlete but chose to become a village teacher, Mr. Hoang just smiled: "At that time, I simply thought that many children had a talent for sports but did not have anyone to guide them, so I wanted to guide and inspire them to pursue and shine with their passion."
To date, Mr. Hoang has been a physical education teacher at Cong Lac Primary School for 16 years. During his time teaching, Mr. Hoang has noticed that many students are talented in sports, especially soccer.
At that time, Tu Ky's sports achievements were not high.
After a period of observation and evaluation, Mr. Hoang boldly advised the Department of Education and Training, the District Culture - Information - Sports Center (now the Center for Culture, Sports and Communication) to organize local tournaments.
At this time, Mr. Hoang was entrusted to coach the Tu Ky district football team to participate in provincial tournaments. And since then, the football movement and achievements of Tu Ky have changed significantly.
At the Phu Dong Sports Festival of Hai Duong province in 2012, Tu Ky football team stepped onto the highest podium for the first time and was followed by many football championships.
Not only successful with the local sports movement, when the Hai Duong U9 Gia Bao team was established, the responsibility of head coach was "chosen" and assigned to Mr. Hoang. The U9 Gia Bao team also had 5 players who were students of Mr. Hoang.
Military career
Football is not a matter of filling in the blanks. One good player does not make a good team. The coach's job is sometimes not to find the best player but to find the most suitable one.
The talent of coach Nguyen Hung Hoang is not only in finding good players but also in arranging a suitable squad for each opponent.
2024 marked a successful year for U9 Gia Bao in major tournaments. At the 2024 National U9 Football Tournament, the team won the championship cup after defeating U9 Song Lam Nghe An.
To achieve this achievement, in addition to the efforts of the young players, we cannot fail to mention the contributions of the coaches in training, coaching and directing the competition, such as coach Nguyen Hung Hoang.
More specifically, the players voted the best in the national U9 finals in the past 2 years, Nguyen Manh Hung Tan and Pham Nang Truong An, are both students of coach Hoang.
Despite his success in coaching, Mr. Hoang still sticks with the teaching profession.
Ms. Doan Thi Phuong, Principal of Cong Lac Primary School, said that Mr. Hoang is a teacher with solid professional qualifications. Since he came to the school, many sports clubs have been established, and the running movement of the school's staff has also spread. In particular, the soccer movement among students has grown and achieved many successes.
In addition to football, Mr. Hoang is also the head coach of the Tu Ky District Traditional Wrestling Club. The team led by him has won the Hai Duong Province Traditional Wrestling Championship for many years. In addition, Mr. Hoang also tutors students at the school's football, swimming, chess clubs, etc.
Having achieved certain successes like that, but when asked about the secret, Mr. Hung only modestly shared: "Playing sports first of all requires talent. However, talent only accounts for about 30%, the rest is the result of physical and mental training. To achieve high achievements requires a very long process."
As both a teacher and a coach, Mr. Hoang understands the difficulties of his students. The achievements of the teams led by Mr. Hoang have confirmed the reasonable training method when balancing practice time and cultural study time in class.
Despite winning many championship trophies with his students in big and small sports tournaments, Mr. Hoang does not want to stop. He has established a community football training center for children in Tu Ky district, contributing to discovering and training many potential football players, and their cultural studies are not affected.
In the passionate eyes of Mr. Hoang, there is always the concern of how to create a healthy playground, an environment with full conditions for the "rough gems" of Tu Ky sports in particular and Hai Duong in general.
