Toyota Hilux 2024 with hybrid diesel engine

Japanese carmaker Toyota has introduced a new version of the Hilux for the Australian market. The popular 8th generation pickup truck has a new look with upgraded styling, more technology, especially a hybrid diesel engine.

With upgrades to the 2024 Hilux, Toyota expects to increase its competitiveness with the Ford Ranger, according to the company.

The 2024 Hilux has a redesigned exterior with a more aggressive look. The new octagonal grille is decorated differently for each version to distinguish it. The air intakes are refined and the front bumper is decorated with an aluminum skid plate. The body remains the same as the old version, while the rear trunk has added shock absorbers for easier operation.

The highlight of the 2024 Hilux is the addition of 48V technology to the 2.8 diesel engine. Unlike other car manufacturers, Toyota does not use the term or the hybrid symbol to identify it. This system consists of an electric motor with a small lithium-ion battery and a DC converter, allowing for stop or start (Start/Stop). This technology helps save 6-10% fuel, while reducing noise and vibration, according to Toyota.

The mildly electrified 2.8-litre diesel engine produces 203bhp and 500Nm of torque. All mild hybrid versions of the Hilux are equipped with the Multi-Terrain Select off-road driving system with 6 driving modes. In addition, Toyota still retains the non-electrified 2.8 or 2.4 diesel engines, or the 2.7 petrol engine. Manual or automatic transmission options in 4x2 or 4x4 form.

In terms of equipment, all RS models get two front parking sensors and four rear sensors, while those with the 48V system get dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, power windows and floor mats. The RS5, Rogue and GR Sport add wireless charging and two rear USB-C ports.

According to plan, Toyota Hilux 2024 will be sold in the Australian market from March, priced at 17,500-49,000 USD.
