On the afternoon of September 3, General Secretary and President To Lam had a phone call with President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and a high-level online meeting with Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister of Japan Kishida Fumio.
Vietnam and South Korea strive to increase trade turnover to 150 billion USD
During a phone call with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, the two leaders expressed their delight at holding a high-level phone call to exchange views on promoting the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and issues of mutual concern.
President Yoon Suk Yeol expressed his deep condolences over the passing of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and expressed his belief that the Party and State of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary and President To Lam, will continue to achieve great achievements and further enhance its international position and prestige.
The President of South Korea affirmed that he values Vietnam's role in implementing South Korea's policies in the region.
General Secretary and President To Lam congratulated the achievements that South Korea has made in recent times, including economic recovery and strengthening of the supply chain.
The General Secretary and President highly appreciated the rapid development of Vietnam-Korea relations in almost all fields over the past 32 years, especially after upgrading the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The Party and State of Vietnam always attach importance to the friendly and cooperative relationship with the Republic of Korea.
The two leaders agreed to further enhance mutual understanding and political trust through maintaining high-level contacts and exchanges and through channels of the Parties, Governments, National Assembly and people of the two countries; strengthening cooperation in the fields of defense and security; promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation to become increasingly substantive, effective, balanced and sustainable.
The two sides agreed to work together to increase bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD by 2030.
General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed Korean enterprises to participate in major investment projects in Vietnam.
The President of the Republic of Korea emphasized that Korea will increase the import of agricultural products from Vietnam. The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in labor, culture, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchange; and care for and support citizens of the two countries who are living, studying, and working in each other's country.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on regional and international issues. General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is always interested in and ready to actively contribute to the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed on the necessity of maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, development, and respect for international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The President of the Republic of Korea respectfully invited General Secretary and President To Lam to visit Korea soon. General Secretary and President To Lam thanked and happily accepted the invitation.
Japan will continue to contribute to Vietnam's development.
In an online meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Japan is an important partner of Vietnam in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida believes that General Secretary and President To Lam will continue to make important contributions to promoting and deepening the Vietnam-Japan relationship. The Japanese Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam is an important partner of Japan in the region and the world.
The two leaders were pleased with the strong, rapid and comprehensive development of bilateral relations, especially the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace in Asia and the world.
The two sides agreed to continue enhancing political trust and mutual understanding through maintaining high-level exchanges in various flexible forms, effectively promoting bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms. The two sides agreed to promote economic cooperation as the main pillar of the bilateral relationship, deepening the connection between the two economies.
The Japanese Prime Minister emphasized that Japan will continue to contribute to Vietnam's development through ODA aid, strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in digital transformation, green transformation, and training high-quality human resources.
General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam will continue to strongly improve the investment environment, enhance the quality of infrastructure, and welcome foreign enterprises, including Japanese enterprises, to invest and do business in Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to continue promoting defense and security cooperation in a substantive manner, effectively implementing signed cooperation agreements; deepening human resource connectivity, people-to-people exchange, and cooperation between localities.
General Secretary and President To Lam asked the Japanese Government to continue to pay attention, have policies to encourage and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Japan.
The two sides also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern, agreeing to strengthen cooperation to consolidate a peaceful, secure and stable environment in the region, including the East Sea issue.
