On June 25, the 15th Annual Pioneers Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Dalian 2024 opened in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, Northeast China.
Held from June 25-27 under the theme "New Horizons for Growth", the event brought together about 1,600 leading figures in the public and private sectors from nearly 80 countries and territories to discuss and seek new drivers and new ways for global economic growth. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also attended the conference and delivered a speech at the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said the world economy lacks effective growth momentum due to temporary factors, such as the shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, high inflation and worsening debt problems, as well as other deep-seated problems and contradictions.
Premier Li Qiang said the right choice is to look at development issues with a broader vision and mindset, seek reasonable benefits to jointly create long-term momentum for the world economy and open a new foundation for the development of countries.
On the issue of combating climate change and green transformation, Premier Li Qiang said that countries and regions should fulfill their responsibility to cut emissions and cannot delay the pace of green transformation for the sake of short-term economic growth.
According to Premier Li Qiang, the rapid rise of China's emerging industries is in line with the trend of the global technological revolution and green development. Electric vehicles, lithium batteries and photovoltaic products produced by Chinese companies not only meet domestic demand but also enrich the supply in the global market. This has eased inflationary pressure and made positive contributions to the global fight against climate change.
The Chinese premier also called for “maintaining the stability and smooth operation of industrial and supply chains, promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, guiding and promoting healthy global development, and rallying vigorous efforts for world economic growth.”
