On September 10, the 8th Eastern International Economic Forum (EEF 2023) opened at the Far Eastern Federal University on Russkyi Island in the Russian Federation's Vladivostok city and will last until September 13.
In his congratulatory letter to the Forum, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin affirmed that this Forum has a high international reputation and provides an important opportunity for businessmen, politicians, public figures and experts from all over the world to engage in direct dialogue. The Forum has a tradition of addressing the most pressing issues facing the economic, social and infrastructure development of the Russian Far East and many aspects of cooperation and integration in the wider Asia-Pacific region.
The theme of this year’s Forum is “The Road to Partnership, Peace and Prosperity”, reflecting Russia’s desire to build constructive relations with all interested foreign partners. This also shows that the Russian Federation is fully open to a comprehensive dialogue on pressing regional issues and intends to continue to actively participate in efforts to nurture relations between countries in the Asia-Pacific region and contribute to a system based on equality, mutual benefit and respect, in the legitimate interests of all.
Discussions during the Forum's plenary sessions, panel discussions and thematic roundtables will focus on prospects for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, identifying ways to create new, highly efficient production and logistics chains, modernizing transport and energy systems, and ensuring food and environmental security in the region.
About 7,000 delegates attended the Forum's events, including Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing; Myanmar Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, General Mya Tun U; and senior officials from the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Singapore.
President Putin will attend the EEF 2023 plenary session together with Lao Vice President Pani Yathotou on September 12. The Vietnamese delegation is led by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Do Thanh Trung.
In the current economic and political context, the Eastern International Economic Forum is an important event for Russia to promote its policy towards the East, and is also a place to put forward ideas and initiatives to form a dynamic economic development region in Asia-Pacific in general, and Southeast Asia in particular.
