The Prime Minister has appointed Mr. Tran Hong Thai, Director General of the General Department of Hydrometeorology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to hold the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.
New Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Hong Thai
On October 12, 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision 1179/QD-TTg to transfer and appoint Mr. Tran Hong Thai, Director General of the General Department of Hydrometeorology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to hold the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.
Mr. Tran Hong Thai was born in 1974, from Can Loc, Ha Tinh province; graduated from university in Russia, defended his PhD thesis in Earth Sciences and Mathematics at Heidelberg University (Germany).
Before being appointed Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, he was a researcher at the Institute of Hydrometeorology, then became the leader of this institute.
Mr. Thai was then transferred to the position of Deputy Director General of the National Center for Hydrometeorology. When the National Center for Hydrometeorology was transformed into the General Department of Hydrometeorology, Mr. Thai held the position of Deputy Director General.
In April 2018, Mr. Thai was assigned to be in charge of the General Department and in March 2019 he was appointed to the position of Director General of the General Department of Hydrometeorology.
