Players (except captains) are not allowed to complain to referees at Euro 2024

UEFA chiefs are aiming to quell dissent between referees and players at the upcoming Euros in Germany.

In particular, they want to completely remove the scene of many players surrounding and pressuring the referee after situations on the field.

UEFA Referees Committee Director Roberto Rosetti confirmed that players who deliberately complain to referees will be given a yellow card immediately.

He said:"We do this for football, for the image of the game and for the future generation of players and referees.

It is impossible to explain a decision to 10 or 12 players surrounding the referee."

Each team captain may speak to the referee to hear explanations about decisions, as long as they do so properly.

Rosetti further explains: "We allow only one player - the captain - to approach the referee in a respectful manner.

The referee will explain to the captain, and the fourth official will speak to the head coach on the sidelines.

We don't want players to harass and surround the referee. Only the captain is allowed to contact the referee on the field."
