A magistrate judge has signed an order barring former President Donald Trump and his personal assistant Walt Nauta from disclosing information in a criminal case involving the storage of classified documents.

Former US President Donald Trump (3rd, left) at a trial in Manhattan criminal court in New York, USA on April 4, 2023.

Specifically, according to CNN, Judge Bruce Reinhart, who previously approved the search warrant that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted at the Mar-a-Lago resort last year, approved a request from special prosecutor Jack Smith, requesting that documents found in the investigation and trial related to the classified criminal case will not be disclosed to the public or the media, or disseminated on any social media platform without prior notice and approval from the court.

Federal authorities have charged Mr Trump with 37 counts of illegally retaining classified documents and obstructing justice.

During his first appearance before the Federal Court in Miami, Florida on June 13, former US President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty. Mr. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he is the victim of politically motivated investigations and denied all accusations.

On the same day, Mr. Trump was allowed to leave the courthouse without conditions or travel restrictions. However, Judge Goodman ruled that Mr. Trump was not allowed to contact witnesses in the case.

Federal prosecutors have begun handing over evidence to former President Trump’s legal team, including years of correspondence between Trump’s personal lawyers, the National Archives and Records Administration and prosecutors involving classified documents.
