On the occasion of Independence Day this year, Ms. Luu Thi Phuong (24 years old, in Hoang Xa village, Hong Hung commune, Gia Loc) planned to go to Hanoi with her mother to visit President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, watch the flag lowering ceremony at Ba Dinh Square and visit many other revolutionary historical sites in the capital. On the occasion of September 2nd last year, she went to Hanoi with her mother but the short trip was not enough for the two of them to fully understand the significance of the historical sites here. However, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen (Ms. Phuong's mother) was still very happy, because it was the first time she had been to Hanoi.

Early this August, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (25 years old, in Tien Vy village, Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Ha) took 2 days off to visit the Independence Palace with her friends in Ho Chi Minh City. Before that, Ms. Thanh visited Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi). Through the trip, the feeling of pride in the nation's history helped Ms. Thanh to be more grateful to previous generations and to love her homeland and country more.

As National Day September 2nd approaches, many young people do not travel far but choose to celebrate Independence Day in many different ways. Some young people post souvenir photos at historical sites they have visited with the red flag with a yellow star or simply an image collected from the internet and then insert heroic revolutionary songs. Some young people elaborately film short clips on TikTok with search keywords about August Revolution, National Day September 2nd, Independence Day. That is how young people choose to express their deep love for the Fatherland.

Finding historical roots

Ms. Hoang Thu Huong in Gia Loc town is passionate about learning about her hometown's history after many years of studying abroad.

Instead of going far away, Ms. Hoang Thu Huong (born in 1999, living in Zone 2, Gia Loc town) chose to return to her historical roots and fully experience the atmosphere of the historic autumn days in her homeland. In early August, Ms. Huong returned from Korea after 5 years of studying abroad. "These days, I just want to return to my homeland after many years away. The streets are bright with banners, slogans and red flags, which is a normal thing for everyone, but for me, it is extremely interesting and familiar. It has been 5 years since I have been able to live in the atmosphere of this Independence Day," Ms. Huong said.

When Ms. Huong shared the beautiful moments on social networks, many of her friends abroad expressed their love and hope to return to Vietnam soon for Independence Day. Impressed with the plane on display at the Provincial Museum, Ms. Huong was even more excited when she learned that this was a MiG-21Bis plane that had participated in many battles and protected the skies of the North, including Hai Duong, with many outstanding achievements. Hai Duong province is proud to have pilot Nguyen Nhat Chieu, from Quoc Tuan commune (Nam Sach), who flew this plane and was awarded the noble title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, and met Uncle Ho many times.

On the occasion of September 2, many schools have activities to educate students about revolutionary history on the occasion of the great national holiday. This year, Hai Duong College of Tourism and Commerce plans to organize many activities in early September to celebrate Independence Day and the 60th anniversary of the school's founding. Students will participate in football matches, art performances and many creative competitions to celebrate the great holiday.

At Nam Sach Town Kindergarten, mid-August is the summer vacation, but teachers still organize some new activities in class for children to learn about national history. Children wear T-shirts printed with the red flag with a yellow star, a map of Vietnam and the words "I love Vietnam" and participate in games to learn about history and have fun. "Through these activities, we aim to arouse in children love for the Fatherland, pride, curiosity, and interest in learning about national history," said Ms. Nguyen Thi My, Principal of Nam Sach Town Kindergarten.

For the young generation, Independence Day has a profound historical educational significance. Through many practical, simple and meaningful activities, young people are spreading and expressing their sacred love for the Fatherland.
