HMS Victorious, one of the Royal Navy's Vanguard-class nuclear submarines, has been forced to abort a top-secret mission due to a fire.

According to sources of The Sun newspaper, the entire crew of over 130 people had to make efforts to extinguish the fire. At the time of the incident, this ship was carrying Trident 2 missiles.

The fire was reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit and was promptly extinguished. However, the emergency situation forced the commander to order the HMS Victorious to surface at an undisclosed location in the North Atlantic to release toxic fumes.

A Royal Navy source explained to The Sun that every member of the force has firefighting skills. And this ensures that British surface ships and submarines can respond quickly to fires without affecting the outcome of operations.

However, the damage caused by the fire forced HMS Victorious to abandon its top-secret mission and return to its base in Faslane, Scotland.

The Sun noted that the 30-year-old ship, worth more than $3 billion, was taking part in one of the Royal Navy’s four non-stop nuclear deterrence patrols. A Royal Navy spokesman said the incident did not affect the ongoing deterrence operations at sea, but declined to provide any further details.
