Son Doong tops the 10 most magnificent caves on the planet

On October 4, the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh) said that the travel website Wonderslist has just announced the 10 most magnificent natural caves on the planet, in which Son Doong ranked first.

According to Wonderslist, Vietnam's Son Doong Cave is introduced as the largest cave in the world, formed on a fault in the Truong Son mountain range and eroded by underground water over millions of years, creating a giant tunnel beneath the limestone mountains.

Wonderslist announced the 9 caves ranked after Son Doong including: Ice Cave near Mutnovsky volcano (Russia), caves in Algarve (Portugal), Marble Caves (Chile - Argentina), Antelope Canyon (Southwestern United States), Waitomo Glowworm Cave (New Zealand), Cave of Swallows (Mexico), Sonora Cave (Texas, United States), Fingal Cave (Scotland) and Painted Cave (California, United States).

According to the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board, Son Doong Cave was surveyed by an expedition team from the British Cave Research Association (BRCA) in 2009. With measurement methods and parameters recognized by senior geologists around the world, Son Doong Cave has a volume of 38.5 million m3.

Son Doong is the world's largest natural cave and was recognized by the Guinness World Records on April 30, 2013. Then, ABC's Good Morning America program of the United States broadcast live from Son Doong cave globally in 2015, since then Son Doong cave has become a new symbol of Vietnam tourism.
