The Earlie app, which supports the hearing impaired and was developed by Vietnamese students and won a Huawei contest, is highly appreciated for its social significance.

Huawei said that at the Tech4Good 2021 competition under its Seeds for the Future program recently, Vietnam Team VN01 with the Earlie project - supporting deaf people in communication through virtual interpretation software - won second prize out of a total of 390 groups with 79 final entries and more than 110,000 votes.

This application uses AI technology to recognize voice, convert to text and convert sign language to speech, allowing people to communicate with the hearing impaired through virtual interpretation.

With the desire to create equality for deaf people in all aspects, members of Vietnam Team VN01 including Nguyen Quoc Hung (Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology), Dang Le Tuong Vy (Da Nang University of Technology), Nguyen Hoang Hai (Swinburne University of Technology) and Nguyen Viet Phuong (University of Engineering and Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) believe that Earlie can remove barriers and build connections between deaf people and normal people in daily communication.

Attending the Tech4Good award ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong, Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association, expressed his pride when the Vietnamese team won second prize in this competition. He also highly appreciated the significance of the project and hoped that in the future, Vietnamese students would continue to maintain and develop ideas and improve technology products to contribute more to society.

The Seeds for the Future program was first launched in 2008 with the aim of developing ICT talents in the region, bridging the gap between countries, promoting cultural exchange and providing opportunities to study cutting-edge ICT technologies, building expertise and practical skills for participants.

The Tech4Good competition is a new project under the Seeds for the Future program, which was first launched in 2021. In the competition, students need to recognize social issues, and rely on the ICT skills they have been trained throughout the program to come up with solutions from technology. In addition, this competition is also designed to train and develop leadership and teamwork skills through exercises and tests based on the team activity model.
