The Audi R8 supercar that Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu just bought has officially been discontinued.

The German sports car company's decision to discontinue the Audi R8 has just been reported by Top Gear channel.

Audi R8 is a super sports car model loved by many Vietnamese players, associated with famous names such as businessman Nguyen Quoc Cuong (Cuong Do-la), singer couple Dong Nhi - Ong Cao Thang, "coffee king" Dang Le Nguyen Vu,... The car uses a naturally aspirated V10 engine, producing 610 horsepower, maximum torque up to 560Nm, accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. The maximum speed the car can reach is up to 320km/h.

According to Top Gear, in 2003, Audi made a splash in the automotive industry when it debuted the Audi Le Mans quattro concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car marked Audi's three consecutive victories at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

The concept car at that time carried many of the most advanced technologies at that time such as the Audi Space Frame chassis, a completely LED headlight system...

At the 2006 Paris Motor Show, the first commercial version of the Audi R8 was launched. This super sports car regularly appears in the mass media as an icon of Audi technology, as well as contributing to the distinct status of its owner.

In particular, the image of the Audi R8 is also associated with Marvel's blockbuster Iron Man series, as this is the favorite car of technology billionaire Tony Stark.

Rumors of the potential demise of this supercar have been circulating since 2018. In an interview with Car and Driver in 2018, Peter Mertens, Audi's then-technical director, said the company had no plans to develop a third generation of the R8. The reason was said to be that sales were not as expected, while Audi had to focus its resources and finances on developing hybrid and electric vehicles in the future.

In early 2024, the last Audi R8 to roll out of the Bollinger Hofe factory was an R8 Coupe V10 performance quattro. This is a facelifted version of the Audi R8 V10 Plus introduced in 2018.

Right from the time of its launch, the Audi R8 shared its chassis, operating system and many technological features with the Lamborghini Gallardo supercar. However, at this time, when the Audi R8 is discontinued, the Lamborghini Gallardo supercar will no longer be equipped with the familiar V10 engine, but will probably be replaced by a hybrid V8 engine.

Previously, Audi launched the all-electric Audi R8 e-tron.

In Vietnam, the second generation Audi R8 became a car trend in 2016 - 2018 with the Audi R8 V10 Plus model. It is estimated that about 6 cars have been on the road in Vietnam.

In April 2019, during the Car & Passion supercar journey, the Audi R8 V10 Plus was associated with the happy image of the famous couple Cuong Do-la and Dam Thu Trang before getting married.

Most recently, in October 2023, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu, Chairman of Trung Nguyen Coffee Group, spent 9 billion VND to buy an Audi R8 V10 Plus with only 6,700km on the odometer.

Currently on used car floors, Audi R8 V10 Plus is being sold at prices ranging from 6 to 8 billion VND, depending on condition and actual mileage.
