The Ministry of Transport has asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to inspect ticket sales because high airfares are affecting people's travel and tourism needs.

In a document dated May 3, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to urgently review and inspect ticket sales, declaration, price posting, and transparency of information on airline ticket prices, and absolutely not to increase ticket prices against regulations. In case of detecting any irregularities, the Authority shall promptly direct and handle violations within its authority, and report to the Ministry before May 10.

The leaders of the Ministry of Transport also requested the Department of Transport to proactively monitor and promptly advise the Ministry to direct agencies and units to strengthen inspection of transport activities, passenger services, and stabilize ticket prices, especially during the upcoming summer peak season, on the principle of harmonizing the interests and rights of businesses and people.

The above request was made in the context of recent high airfares of domestic airlines, directly affecting people's travel needs, especially during peak periods such as the April 30 - May 1 holidays.

Ticket prices for many domestic flights during the April 30-May 1 holiday are 1.5 times higher than normal days. For example, for the Hanoi - Quy Nhon route, the round-trip airfare for April 27-30 is VND5 million, VND600,000 higher than a month before the peak and VND2 million higher than a week after the peak.

Last year, Best Price's ticket office data showed that customers booked round-trip air tickets close to the date of the Hanoi - Quy Nhon route for the April 28 - May 1 journey for 2.3 million VND per person.
