In a statement on Facebook, the organization confirmed the above casualty figure, after 11 more bodies were recovered on April 24. These bodies were handed over to the authorities in Sabratha city, west of the capital Tripoli.
A security source said the death toll could rise and the chances of survival were slim, especially as no distress calls were detected.
The Red Crescent previously reported finding six bodies, and 17 other victims were discovered on April 23.

Local authorities said on April 19 they received a distress call from an inflatable boat that was sinking off the coast of Libya and was carrying about 100 passengers. The group said it had tried to contact the Libyan coast guard but had been unsuccessful.
