Belgian police found about 15 migrants, including a pregnant woman and a minor, trapped in a refrigerated truck, with the temperature inside the vehicle at just 2 degrees Celsius.

On the evening of February 6 (local time), an alarming incident occurred at the Marquain industrial park in Tournai City, Belgium, when police discovered about 15 migrants, including a pregnant woman and a minor, trapped in a refrigerated truck.

The temperature inside the truck was only about 2 degrees Celsius, putting the lives of these people in danger.

At around 7pm, the rescue team received the report and immediately dispatched two ambulances to the scene. After checking, they discovered 15 migrants in critical condition inside the refrigerated truck.

The victims were immediately taken out and given medical attention. The pregnant woman was taken to Wallonie Picarde Hospital for observation and treatment.

Tournai police official Dominique Debrauwere could not hide his emotion when talking about the incident: "This is a humanitarian tragedy. First of all, they are victims. These people spent at least 24 hours inside this refrigerated truck. It is fortunate that we discovered them on the evening of February 6, otherwise the outcome could have been very different."

According to police sources, the driver of the refrigerated truck appeared to be unaware of the presence of migrants on board.

The man said he was from Italy and was on his way to England. His car broke down in the Froyennes area, and after being towed to a repair shop, he heard suspicious noises in the trunk. He then reported it to the repair shop manager, who in turn called the police.

The identities and nationalities of the migrants are still being confirmed, but it is believed they may be from Eritrea and Ethiopia.
