A crystal clear lake that seems to be “hanging” on the cave wall, about 15m higher than the underground river system, has just been discovered in a branch of Thung Cave, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
Accordingly, the survey team of Junglee Boss Company Limited (located in Phong Nha town, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh) has just discovered a mysterious lake in a branch of Thung cave, part of the cave system in Hung Thoong.
This lake is located about 1km from the cave entrance, has a surface area of about one hundred square meters, and is surrounded by stalactites.
What's special is that the lake is about 15m higher than the main underground river in the cave, so it looks like it's "hanging" on the cave wall.
Due to a lack of diving equipment, the survey team has not yet measured the depth of the lake, nor has it found the source of water flowing into it.
Due to the unique location of the lake, the survey team temporarily named it Suspended Lake.
According to Mr. Le Luu Dung, director of Junglee Boss, the survey team will soon return to Thung Cave with more equipment to decode the mysteries surrounding Lo Lung Lake.
Hung Thoong is one of the most pristine places of Phong Nha - Ke Bang. Hung in Phong Nha language means valley.
The Thoong cave system or Thoong valley is very unique and special with many caves located deep in the strictly protected area of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, surrounded by a system of million-year-old limestone mountains and primeval forests.
It is known that since the beginning of 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province has allowed the pilot exploitation of the tour to explore Thoong cave.
