Japan on January 10 added 11 individuals and 32 organizations in Russia as well as individuals from North Korea and a Georgian bank to its sanctions list, with their assets frozen due to their involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Japanese government also announced that it has decided to ban exports to 53 organizations, including 22 Russian and 18 Chinese, to prevent exports of products that could be used to strengthen Russia's industrial base.

The ban takes effect in January.

In addition, Japan also added 335 items to the list of banned exports to Russia.

Previously, at the online G7 Summit in December 2024, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced that his country was considering additional sanctions against entities in third countries and countries involved in evading sanctions against Russia.

Japan, along with its G7 partners and Western countries, has been imposing economic sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine conflict.

Russia has not yet commented on the above move.
