Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 26 that Russia will carefully consider how to respond to the European Union's (EU) move to transfer 1.5 billion euros worth of frozen assets of the country to Ukraine.

Mr. Peskov once stated that the transfer of profits from Russian assets to other purposes violates all the rules and norms of the international economic and financial system.

This move will entail serious legal problems for those who make the decision and those who take advantage of it.

Earlier the same day, President of the European Commission (EC), Ms. Ursula von der Leyen said: "Today, we transfer 1.5 billion euros from Russian real estate assets to Ukraine for reconstruction and defense."

The US and its allies have frozen about $300 billion in Russian Central Bank assets as part of sanctions imposed over Moscow's military offensive in Ukraine.

It is expected that the EU will use 90% of the profits from this asset to provide military support to Kiev, the rest will be transferred to the EU budget and used for the purpose of rebuilding Ukraine.
