Messenger users can edit messages after sending them

In a new security update for Messenger, Meta lets app users edit or automatically delete messages after they've been sent.

According to an announcement on the Messenger homepage, the messaging app now allows users to edit messages after sending them within 15 minutes. Edited messages can still be viewed, similar to Facebook.

Another interesting feature in the Messenger upgrade is that messages can be automatically deleted within 24 hours of being sent. According to Meta representatives, this additional feature will help users feel secure that their messages are always secure and will not last forever.

Nội dung tin nhắn có thể được chỉnh sửa trong 15 phút sau khi gửi đi và có thể thực hiện cả trong nhóm chat lẫn chat giữa cá nhân.

Message content can be edited within 15 minutes of sending and can be done in both group chats and individual chats.

Auto-delete messages on Messenger are only available for end-to-end encrypted chats, but you can still automatically delete messages if you receive inappropriate content.

In addition, the system also automatically sends information if someone intentionally takes a screenshot of the message.

Both features are part of a plan to make end-to-end encryption default on Messenger that Meta announced on December 6.

According to a Meta representative, the company is pushing for end-to-end encryption on its Messenger messaging app and on Facebook. A similar plan is also in the works for Instagram.

However, Meta representative did not give a timeline for this change.

Previously, Facebook now Meta promised end-to-end encryption for Messenger, and since 2016 the messaging app has allowed users to enable End-to-end encryption (E2EE).

Nội dung tin nhắn đã được gửi đi cũng có thể được xóa tự động sau 24 giờ.

Sent messages can also be automatically deleted after 24 hours.

End-to-end encryption is now used by many online messaging platforms to keep conversations private. It also prevents personal information from being mined for profit by the messaging platform, or disclosed in the event of a corporate data breach.

This is an important and necessary feature to ensure user privacy and meet global regulations.

However, Meta currently lags behind some of its instant messaging rivals when it comes to end-to-end encryption of individual content.

Viber, Snapchat, Telegram, and Whatsapp have all implemented end-to-end encryption for quite some time now, and hidden chat or self-deleting chat features are not new to these apps since 2016.
