On October 22, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will travel to the Iranian capital Tehran on October 23 to hold talks with his regional counterparts.
Earlier, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported that Tehran had invited the foreign ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Armenia to the country for talks.
The talks are expected to take place amid escalating conflicts in the Middle East and rising tensions in the border region between Armenia and Azerbaijan over sovereignty over the Nagorny-Karabakh region.
In recent times, Russia and Iran have expanded their bilateral partnership in the context of both countries being subject to sanctions from the West.
