Coach Ten Hag will lead the "Red Devils" at least until next season, despite causing controversy about last season's achievements and form.

On the evening of June 11, British media simultaneously reported that Man Utd's leadership decided to let Erik Ten Hag continue to lead the team next season. According to the newspaperDaily Mail, evaluating the 2023-2024 season, came to the conclusion that the current coach is the most suitable person for the job. Man Utd also considered candidates such as Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, or Mauricio Pochettino.

Transfer journalists David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano also reported that Man Utd will keep Ten Hag. In the near future, the club and the coach may negotiate a contract extension that expires in June 2025.

Last season, Man Utd finished eighth in the Premier League, eliminated from the Champions League group stage and the fourth round of the League Cup. However, Ten Hag's team caused a surprise when they defeated Man City, who had just won their fourth consecutive Premier League, 2-1 in the FA Cup final. The Dutch coach won the title for two consecutive seasons for Man Utd, something that had not happened since the time of former coach Alex Ferguson. In the 2022-2023 season, Ten Hag's team won the League Cup and finished third in the Premier League.

According toDaily Mail, the board decided to keep Ten Hag after considering the problems that occurred last season, including injuries and the difficulties of some new players. Goalkeeper Andre Onana and striker Rasmua Hojlund both played poorly before finding their form. Mason Mount, a midfielder bought for £75 million from Chelsea, missed most of the season due to injury.

Despite the squad struggles, Ten Hag has been highly regarded for his ability to develop young players. Under his guidance, 19-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo played 32 games, scored five goals, became the new star of English football and earned a place at the Euros. 19-year-old winger Alejandro Garnacho also had a breakthrough season, scoring 10 goals and assisting five in 50 games.

Jason Wilcox, a former Leeds player and Man City academy director, has joined Man Utd as technical director. Earlier in July, another former Man City executive, Omar Berrada, will take over as chief executive. In addition, Man Utd are still in talks to bring Dan Ashworth from Newcastle as sporting director. According toDaily Mail, Man Utd leaders have discussed with Ten Hag about the new management structure. The discussions are said to have had positive results.

Ten Hag has led Man Utd since the summer of 2022. Before winning the League Cup and FA Cup with the "Red Devils", the 54-year-old coach won three Dutch championships, two Dutch Cups, two Dutch Super Cups and reached the semi-finals of the 2018-2019 Champions League with Ajax.
